We have taken a lot of experience and used it to make a jewelry box that is functional and stunning. The sides are made of box jointed Curly Ambrosia Maple that has been book matched to show off the unique and beautiful grain and ambrosia markings.
The term Ambrosia refers to the beetle that bores into these freshly cut logs. The beetle produces two types of fungus. The first coats the hole the beetle bores out and the second is a staining fungus that seeps into the wood and can create grayish, greenish, bluish, colors. The holes and markings will not affect the structural integrity of the box.
Curly Maple, Carpathian Elm Burl and African Mahogany
This box is made mostly of curly Maple, one of our favorite woods to work with. The lid is veneered with African Mahogany and Carpathian Elm burl. The front of the box is decorated with Blood wood plugs, and an Ebony plug in the center of the design. The feet are made of a slightly figured Cherry. The interior is lined with black velvet contains a removable top tray. This box has a unique mini box in the bottom for small items which you would like to keep separated. The Mini box has a similar plug design as the front od the jewelry box. The plugs are cut from American Poplar, Chakte Kok (redheart), and Ebony.
Solid Walnut Stationary Tray
This is a simple solid Walnut stationary tray. The face is open and allows access to the stationary. The lid removes for easy paper replacement. The accent inlays are a very curly maple. This is an example of our custom work. This piece was made specifically for stationary the person already had.
Curly Maple with Bocote inlays
Below is an all curly Maple box with a single Bocote inlay down the middle of the lid. This box is a catchall construction with no compartments
Handmade Wood Hinges
This is an example of hinges constructed from wood. After some "beautifying" these hinges would be a perfect addition to a handcrafted jewelry box.
